Learning to Trust God in the Storms of Life
Life can feel like a storm at times—unpredictable, overwhelming, and downright scary. In those moments, we often find ourselves questioning everything, from our abilities to our faith. The guys on the Larcast podcast capture this struggle beautifully by diving into the story of Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33). They discuss how, as long as Peter kept his focus on Jesus, he was able to do the impossible—literally walking on the waves. But as soon as he shifted his gaze to the wind and the waves around him, he began to sink. How relatable is that?
We tend to overthink, intellectualize, and try to control everything when faced with trials, which often leads to anxiety and exhaustion. Instead, it’s about trusting God, like a child trusts a parent. When we ask for wisdom in our daily lives—whether in relationships, work, or personal challenges—the key is to trust that God is good, even when the storm rages around us.
They use an insightful quote from theologian Robert Capon, who pointed out that Jesus didn’t come to fit into our preconceived notions of a savior. He didn’t overthrow the Roman Empire or lead a rebellion. Instead, He hung on the cross and bled—a humbling reminder that God's ways often look very different from what we expect.
So, what does this mean for us? In those moments when life feels chaotic, and we don’t know what’s next, we can find comfort in the truth that God is present. He may not always deliver the way we expect, but He is always there, offering wisdom and peace if we’re willing to ask and trust.
What are some areas in your life where you’ve been trying to control everything instead of trusting God?
